Wellington sits inland, west of the interstate, and runs to a different calendar from the coast. Its winter equestrian season fills the village from January into spring, with the showgrounds and the polo grounds drawing riders, grooms, owners and spectators from well outside Florida. Outside those months it is a quiet suburban village.
From Miami International the distance is about 62 miles, shorter than the island runs, but the time is similar at 70 to 100 minutes because the last stretch leaves the highway. Drivers typically take the Turnpike north and exit toward Lake Worth Road or Forest Hill Boulevard, then west; I-95 to Southern Boulevard and west is the alternative when the Turnpike is slow.
The fare is fixed from $129 per vehicle and includes tolls, which matters more here than elsewhere given the Turnpike routing, along with waiting time at MIA, airport parking and the arrivals meet and greet. Season traffic around the showgrounds is heavy at predictable hours and absorbed within the quoted price.
Barn and showground addresses are not always where a map pin suggests, and during season several access roads become one-way or restricted. If you are heading to a specific barn, give its name as well as the street; drivers who work the season know most of them, and it is considerably faster than navigating by number down a service road at seven in the morning.
